THE LITTLE SOUL AND THE SUN
LA PETITE AME ET LE SOLEIL

(This story is a parable about a little soul's journey to understand its true nature as the light. It has a conversation with God where it learns it is the light but wants to experience what that feels like. This simple and powerful story brings children a profound truth: there is no absolute good or bad, only love ... )

WHY DARKNESS, YOU ASK?

“Why the darkness, you ask?

The darkness protects you, my love.

You bury the pieces of yourself that are too scary to face, you bury them in the night and the fog until you're ready to face them. So you never have to bear what you can't yet bear, or feel what you're not yet ready to feel. It's smart, this funeral.

But then we forget. You forget that the underworld is only made of abandoned pieces of you. You forget that YOU put those pieces there. It was your own creation, the monstrous kingdom of Hell, devils and dragons.

These lost and frightened fragments always want to come back to you. The darkness is looking for you!

They will haunt you, track you, follow you wherever you go. You cannot run away, for this is all of you, all of the abandoned pieces of your great old heart, all of which need help, yearning to be integrated, asking to be included in a greater self.

I promise you, I promise you, in the depths of your most terrible despair and loneliness, in the protruding eyes of the most hideous monster that pursues you, if you stop, if you turn to face him, and if you look just hard enough, when you're ready, and not a moment before, if you look just hard enough, and through the eyes of love, you'll see... yourself. Not death, but life. Not destruction, but absolute security. You will see your own kind eyes smiling back at you, a safe place within the trauma.

Your salvation is in darkness, you see, and his salvation is in you! You are One, you always have been. No separation!

Nothing to fear except the loss of all fear! Let the darkness have you, my love, breathe into its sacred core, give it what it cries out for, and you will feel the most extraordinary power, you will know the most blinding light!

Why the darkness, you ask?

So that you are protected from your own immense power.

Until you're ready..."

A grief poem - NOT NOW

I woke up this morning and rubbed my eyes, still feeling tired and

fumbling around the house. Grief stumbled beside me.

“Not now” I said, “I am barely even awake. This is not the time.”

I made a quick breakfast and hurried out the door. Grief followed along.

I turned around and said, “Not now, they cannot see me crying.”

I busied myself all day until I finally had some time to rest.

I fell onto the chesterfield, glad to have a minute to myself.

Grief whispered in my ear again.

“Not now” I said, “can’t you see how much I need this?”

So, grief sat right down beside me instead. Not a single word.

No quiet breath. She just sat there on the next cushion.

I felt her but I did not want to look.

In a moment of curiosity, I glanced over at her presence.

Hands folded politely. Flowers in her hair. Her skin soft and delicate.

She must have noticed my confusion.

“I know” she said, “not now.”

“No – it’s okay” I said, “it’s just – I didn’t expect you to look like that.”

“Like what?”

“Beautiful, gentle, full of grace. And to think, I pushed you away all day.”

Grief looked at me with tender eyes and said,

“You just hadn’t seen me dressed as love yet.”
